Antique French Village School Ecole Communale - by Villard & Weill
Rare French dollhouse with ECOLE COMMUNALE mark on front. This wooden two-storey school house has a painted blue roof and a lithographed simulated brick exterior, thirteen arched windows with glass panes, front gable with metal school bell, hinged front door with faux iron work and original handle, wooden front steps. Front opens to reveal two rooms with painted walls decorated with French maps.
This school is presented in the 1905 Christmas catalog of the Aux Trois Quartiers department store. Three sizes exist, this one is the medium size. Its design has many common features with the Deauville dollhouses : floor papers, marble design on the base, door and door handle, external bricks paper with white paper strips. It was made by the French toys manufacturer Villard & Weill.
21 5/8"(55 cm) high, 21 1/2"(54.5 cm) wide and 10 5/8"(27 cm) deep (without chimney and stairs).
Very good condition. Partial repaint (interior walls and roof cornice).
